Live From the Desert

Greetings! I'm Kimberly Klentzman.

So, here’s the deal:  I’m in Jerusalem this summer!  I work with a news crew here as they capture stories for television broadcast.  I’ll focus on gaining experience with the lights, sound, cameras, and editing gear (cutting edge technology) that are involved in putting news segments together.  This opportunity has come about through Regent University, where I am getting my master’s degree in Cinema/Television.

Some of the background:   I am from central Texas, just north of Austin.  Jesus allowed me to be born into an amazing family.  My parents are both strong believers, as were my grandparents.  Daddy is a cowboy, played basketball in college, and is a laugh-out-loud story-teller.  Mom is beautiful, ultra-talented, and never complains about a thing, even when she has every right to do so.  I have six siblings; five brothers and one sister.  We do music together.  Each of us sings and plays a different instrument.  We lead worship at churches and other Christian gatherings.  It was torture in high school, but I love it now because I can finally laugh along with jokes about the Von Trap or the Partridge family.

About the education, experience, and plans:  I studied mathematics and biology at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Texas. (GO CRU!)  I taught junior high and high school for a few years, and loved it.  Really, I enjoyed connecting with the students, trying to make Algebra and Calculus fun (or at least somewhat less miserable) and doing impressions of my college professors.  Each summer, I work with Christian youth camps and camps for kids with special needs.  I enjoy leading worship, writing skits, scheduling activities, and getting to play with the campers and counselors.  When I complete my master’s degree at Regent, I plan to make films for camps, mission agencies, and other non-profit organizations.  Working with documentary style video productions in the Holy Land is a dream come true!

Free time favorites:  I sure enjoy spending time with friends and family, reading, watching films, and playing ultimate frisbee and basketball.  My favorite music comes from Rachmaninoff, Bach, and just about any jazz artist.  I love Blue Bell ice cream.  Also, Barbeque = Brisket + Sauce that sits obediently on top   NOT   pulled pork + whatever that tangy liquid stink is.  Honestly, the east coast is full of smart, classy people who have no idea what proper meat is and what it should be dressed in!

Sweet Connections:  Since beginning school in Virginia Beach this year, I’ve had several opportunities to serve the community.  I’d like to give a shout out to my friends at Young Life Capernaum (a youth group ministry for those with special needs), the University Chapel praise team, and the Counsel of Graduate Students!

Please pray: for safety in our travel and excellence in our work!  Pray for my fellow intern, Bonnie, and me as we experience the culture and people throughout our adventures in TV production!

Lehitra’ot! (See you later!)
